Weruché Uzoka (formerly Weruché George), a Nigerian-born writer relocated to the United States in 2005 and has made Hamden, Conn. her home since then. She graduated cum laude from Quinnipiac University and has degrees in English, Communications, and Studies in the Law. Her master's in journalism capstone project 'Is This Home Now?' is a 30-minute documentary film about refugee immigration and resettlement.

She graduated in 2020, from Columbia University with a second master's degree in Human Rights Studies.

She was a delegate to the 13th Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Warsaw, Poland with the Albert Schweitzer Institute at Quinnipiac University where she participated in workshops with Nobel Peace Laureates Muhammad Yunus, Mairead Maguire, and others. She is also a United Nations Association-USA representative to the United Nations 62nd Commission on the Status of Women. Weruché was the Keynote Speaker at the Emerge Connecticut 2019 graduation. Emerge America inspires women to run for public office and hones their skills to win. In October 2019, she was appointed by Hamden Mayor -Curt Balanzo Leng - to the Hamden Human Rights and Relations Commission, where she's currently serving a term as a Commissioner. She was also appointed to the Board of Directors of Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services- IRIS. She's also serving out a one-year term on the Connecticut Mirror's Community Editorial.

In August 2020, after being approached for the third time to run for public office, she petitioned to run against the incumbent. She lost her race for state representative in the General Elections on Nov. 3, 2020. Her love for travel, combined with her curiosity about how the rest of the world lives has led her to visit countries in Europe, Western Asia, and Africa. She's intrigued by what people eat, where they call their home, & the sights & sounds that keep their hearts throbbing.
