Thomas Karr

Brooklyn, NY

I am the founder of Thomas Karr Marketing. I help organizations better express themselves, and their work, in order to reach the widest and most supportive audience possible - whether this means developing rousing marketing campaigns to win new prospects, redesigning assets to ensure that material matches the quality of the work onstage, or retooling communications platforms to better facilitate dialog.

Previously I was the Associate Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Theatre Development Fund where I helped establish the organization's first marketing department and increased membership by 16% in the first six months. In this capacity I developed and implemented long-term strategy to increase brand awareness, membership retention, and audience development. In addition, I developed and managed our marketing and communication strategies, designed our print and digital publications, and guided our brand toward a unified voice. Before joining TDF I served as the Director of Marketing/Director of Graduate Studies in Theatre Management for The University of Alabama/Alabama Shakespeare Festival where I taught courses in marketing and public relations, business ethics, development, and arts advocacy. In addition I have produced/general managed several Off Broadway productions including "Alcestis Ascending," "Dammit, Shakespeare," and "Underwear: A Space Musical" (at the New York International Fringe Festival). I also served on the Event Committee for the Broadway Beauty Pageant benefiting the Ali Forney Center.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts from The University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee and am also an author and illustrator, having written my first children's book, "Mabel Stanley and the Town That Was Built All Wrong."
