I am a Paramedic. There are many like me, but I am unique, as we all are. I also have a full—time job that is different than someone would expect when they encounter a person who is in this line of work.

My regular day job is as a member of the organization that monitors, regulates, licenses, and supports the EMS and Trauma systems in the State of New Hampshire. I also work part-time as a Paramedic educator and as a provider for a private ambulance service that operates in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. These jobs keep me busy.

I have seen things that would make most people turn away in horror. Often enough, people ask me why I chose the work that I do. I didn't; it chose me. Most of us that are in this profession, if asked the same question, would likely say something similar. And the vast majority would also say that they practice good medicine in bad places. These days - especially these days - it is not a lie.

Fortunately, I am also happily married to my best friend. She loves me in spite of myself, and she keeps me honest. She also does everything possible to help me maintain both a positive attitude and a grounded perspective. We have three children, all grown, all good people, as well as five grandchildren: four granddaughters and a grandson, ages 2 through 13. And we have two rescue dogs, a German shepherd/Boxer and a Pit Bull. Both of these creatures continue to keep us aware of the saying, "when you rescue a dog, you're the one who is rescued", because it’s absolutely true.
