Zach Friend is a policy, public affairs and communications expert who has worked for Barack Obama and John Kerry’s presidential campaigns, the White House Council of Economic Advisers, U.S. Senate, Congressman Sam Farr and the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

While serving as a presidential campaign press secretary, Zach handled all media messaging, communications strategy and media relations in targeted media markets in battleground states. This included briefing national campaign principals and surrogates and providing on-the-record quotes for local, state national and international print, radio and television media on behalf of the campaigns.

His book, On Message: How a Compelling Narrative Will Make Your Organization Succeed became an Amazon best seller in the Marketing category. He has lead numerous training and conferences on messaging, media and narrative based on principals in the book.

In June of 2012, Zach was elected to the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors representing the 2nd District - which includes Aptos, La Selva, Corralitos and portions of Capitola and Watsonville.

Zach has a Masters degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in History from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
