Adrian C. Halnan
Educator in England, United Kingdom
I started my working life outside Education. I was a mature student when I studied full-time for my undergraduate degree and achieved qualified teacher status. I taught at a Junior School in Hampshire for several years. I soon had responsibility for the use of ICT in teaching and learning and supported some other schools in the county. I was part of a team of teachers and advisors who arranged ‘Ask a Scientist’ days, which used early internet connections. I was seconded into Higher Education to teach ICT on undergraduate and postgraduate teacher training programmes. This led to a full-time lecturer post. I became the lead tutor for the first year of a BEd (Hons) programme. I was one of a small team which managed the validation, implementation and teaching of an MSc in Computer Based Learning and Training (CBLT).
With the expansion of teacher education at the University of Southampton I was appointed as a Senior Teaching Fellow to teach ICT on Primary and Secondary PGCE programmes. I also taught modules on the MSc CBLT programme.
Having been Director of the MSc CBLT and MA Education by Dissertation through Flexible study, I became the Director of Advanced Programmes. In 2012 I became Director of Programmes (Deputy Head of Southampton Education School) a role which I held until March 2015. From the start of 2015/2016 academic year I will be take the role of Senior Tutor for the School
