The average American spends 12% of their budget on food. My monthly grocery bill often totals more than my rent. I spend most of my time making messes in the kitchen and digging in my tiny garden. I quit my first full time job to work on a farm and was compensated only with vegetables. It was a great gig and also makes me appreciate my CSA share so much more.

I'm the Project Manager for the Pioneering Healthier Communitites Initiative with the Virginia Alliance of YMCAs. Virginia was one of fourteen states to receive funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to address childhood obesity. Most of my time is spent traveling to YMCAs across the state to ensure that all of our Ys are creating environments to make the healthy choice the first choice and are implementing the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards. I represent the Virginia Alliance at state-level policy discussions and advocate for policy, systems and environmental changes that will improve the health of all Virginians. Its a pretty rad thing to represent 29 corporate Ys both across thes state and country. I'm also known as the dessert police.

I've yet to meet a vegetable I didn't like. The same goes for chocolate. Gluten-free baker extrodinare. Half-marathoner. Pure Barre instructor.
