Teacher in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Hi everyone! I’m Alissa. I am an occasional teacher in Toronto, Ontario.
I received an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto (2006-2010), majoring in Human Biology and Psychology. I received my Bachelor of Education from OISE (2012-2013) in Primary/Junior. I then got my Intermediate Science (General) qualification and Special Education Part I qualification.
I am currently employed as an occasional teacher by the Toronto Catholic District School Board. I started off as an education assistant for about one year before becoming an occasional teacher. I am now eagerly waiting to get onto the LTO list. I have done short assignments in Gr. 3, Gr. 5 and Gr. 8 classes, during which I had the opportunity to plan for a few weeks and assess student learning.
I am interested in learning about strategies for teaching and assessing students at the senior level, as most of my experience is at the K-8 level. I am particularly interested in learning about teaching biology because it would be great to be able to share knowledge about topics that I am personally interested in.
I would like to develop various strategies for teaching that would be interesting and engaging for students at the senior level. I would also like to come up with collaborative activities/labs to encourage student-centered learning.
I am interested in the strands of senior biology that involve human biology, in particular “structure and function” and “genetics”.
I am looking forward to working with all of you over the next couple of months!
