Born in the family 'Ulfat' and was bought up in Dehradun, now I live between the foothills of Himalayas ( Dehradun) and shores of Arabian sea (Mumbai) to explore the known, unknown and the unknowable. I must have shot through the cosmos like the meteor in the silent space. I find there is so much to do and time is ruuning out. ((( I used to say time is for the slaves)))
Presently I have two responsiblities in hand, one is the chief Education coordinator and trustee of Nanhi Dunya ‘The International Movement for Children and their Friends’, and the other is the Creative Head, Recyclewala Labs Performing Arts Mumbai.
I received my M.A in English literature from Garhwal University. I studied speech & drama and completed my teacher training at Emerson College, U.K. I have served at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and at the Film and Television Institute of India.I also had the opportunity to Direct Acts for Zee Televsion and star plus.
As an extensive traveler, I have taught in schools, conducted workshops, acted and directed in India, England, Scotland, France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Hungary and Canada.
Avikal ´Initiative for Active Learning`, Alok Ulfat Centre for Performing Arts AUCPA and Avikal Theatre Company are the outcome of many years of soul searching, widespread adventures and studying in various centers of learning.
My parents, Prof. Lekh Raj Ulfat founded Nanhi Dunya 'The International Movement of Children and their Friends’ and my mother Sadhana Ulfat co-founded various child and women welfare activities in the field of education and social welfare. My sister Kiran U Goyal is classical/folk singer/lyricist and is actively involved in education, social work, cultural activities and is the chief promoter & executive of The Nanhi Dunya movement. As a trustee of Nanhi Dunya, I also works in various capacities for the expansion of the movement. My wife Shruti Ulfat is a well-known Actress and initiates various activities for AUCPA and Avikal..
We are engaged in designing, conducting and developing courses for actors, teachers, social workers and the corporate sector in India and abroad. We are also developing centers for Performing arts, youth and cultural activities in Dehra Dun and Mumbai.
