I was born in Cardiff and it took me 20 years to find my way back here - via Canada, France, and Scotland - after leaving Wales in the late 1980s. I'm Professor of Intelligent Systems at Cardiff University, and Director of Research for the School of Computer Science & Informatics. I'm interested in how to get actionable information to people where they need it, particularly in environmental, health, security, and societal domains. My students and I work closely with biologists, ecologists, healthcare professionals, patients, policy-makers, and people in front-line situations. I also love science fiction: HAL, Marvin, Roderick, K9 & co. got me into computing in the first place.
