Student and Mulitmedia Journalist in Maine
Alyssa Thurlow is a senior Mass Communications major concentrating in Sports Broadcasting.
A northern Maine native, she attended the New England School of Communications on the campus of Husson University.
While at the New England School of Communications, Alyssa took advantage of all the clubs and activities the Journalism department had to offer. She was the President of her local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and she took part in the university’s only sports show, “The Locker Room,” and a bi-weekly newscast called the “NESCom Connection.”
She also ran the sidelines as a reporter for various Husson sporting events for NESCom Productions. When she wasn’t in front of the camera, you could find her behind it shooting games, including the Maine State High School Football Championships which aired across the region.
In her senior year, Alyssa has had the opportunity to start her career by interning at WABI-TV5 news in Bangor, Maine. Through that experience she has interviewed politicians, coaches, and everyday Mainers looking to get their stories heard. Before her internship at WABI-TV5 news she snagged her first gig with WVII, also in Bangor, Maine. Alyssa loved to get as much “real world” experience as she could before she graduated.
In the summer of 2015, she had the chance to work for ESPN as a Statistician during the Senior League World Series, and just recently she hosted an NHL Legends game with heroes of the hockey world.
Alyssa grew up playing in varsity sports such as soccer, softball, and basketball. Sports are a huge part of our society and she knew that she wanted to be a part of it in some shape or form, so she chose the sidelines! You might catch her with a camera and microphone in hand from time to time.
When she’s not on the sidelines you can catch her enjoying the outdoors. She loves to spend her free time hiking, skiing, and just enjoying all that the Pine Tree State has to offer! She also likes to travel, spend time with family and friends, and workout.
Off the field, Alyssa is also a big sports fan. She loves all Boston teams except in football (sorry Patriots fans)! She grew up cheering on her beloved Dallas Cowboys with her dad and to this day she bleeds blue and silver every Sunday.
