As a writer and public health consultant, my passions are aligned: to communicate clearly and effectively. In my public health career, I have focused on bringing research to practice through the strategic communication of professional and technical material to non-expert audiences. Clients include California Mental Health Services Authority projects, San Diego County, the Kansas and California state public health departments, Drexel University School of Public Health, and Gallup, Inc. I have also co-authored seven articles in professional, peer-reviewed journals. For more information, please visit my Linked In profile at

I also write fiction and poetry. My most recent collection of short stories, Remedies for Hunger, was given 4 stars by the Chicago Book Review. I grew up in Chicago where I attended writing workshops at Urban Gateways and Columbia College. At Kenyon College, I received the John Crowe Ransom Poetry Prize. I attended the Bread Loaf Writers Workshop in fiction and in 2015 taught at the American River College SummerWords Creative Writing Festival. And I authored four children's picture books on safety topics, published by Capstone Press. Follow me at
