As founder and CEO of Reality Works Group (formerly Phone Works,) I get to work with an international group of some of the industry's most talented sales, inside sales and marketing executives who have made the choice to leave their traditional jobs and join the virtual workforce to pursue project-based work. Our office is "in the cloud."

I created and built OracleDirect, Oracle's now multibillion USD global inside sales organization. Before that, I started as Oracle's 12th employee at the entry level (combination receptionist/admin to the company/fetcher of coffee and housesitter for Larry.)

We started inside sales with pilot programs in the SF Bay area territory in the U.S. in 1985 and the U.K., the Netherlands, Australia and Canada outside the U.S. in 1988. Everyone else thought we were nuts to attempt selling enterprise software by phone.

Marc Benioff (salesforce.com's Chairman and CEO) was one of my first employees in inside sales. He had the LA territory.

Steve Jobs was one of my first clients (at NeXT.)

Recognizing the need to define the emerging term "Sales 2.0," I co-authored (with the amazing Brent Holloway) "Sales 2.0: Improve Business Results Using Innovative Sales Practices and Technology."

Now that I'm a published author, I get to speak frequently on innovative sales practices and technology (“Sales 2.0”), inside sales, sales effectiveness and optimization, sales and marketing integration and social selling.

I've been honored with a number of industry awards including the 2011 AA-ISP (American Association of Inside Sales Professionals) Lifetime Achievement Award. Is this a hint that it's time to retire? :-)
