My name is Arthur Rooks and I am a collector, dealer of vintage mid-century design and antiques which I deal internationally with my two companies, quintessentia.com and postauction.com.
Since my first purchase of a comic book at a garage sale in Vicksburg, Mississippi with my grandmother some forty years ago, I have been hooked and a fan of the dusty, the discarded, the sublime, the valued and the “white elephant” treasures that one can discover in the world from flea markets to the most venerable auction houses.
After graduating from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL; I moved to Zürich Switzerland. After stints at one of Zürich's most important galleries for design and with the "Decorative Arts" Collection of Bruno Bischofberger; I decided the time was right to pursue my dream. Since, I have never looked back and enjoy every minute of my job with a client base from Tokyo to New York. Admittedly, being an independent business owner is not always a "bowl of cherries"; I have been fortunate that the real pits have been far and few between. As a result, I have been able to venture into interior design, create furniture and wallpaper collections .
Spare time? Well, I get up around 4 am each morning and my days are usually long. My business is my pleasure; so, to relax I usually go to flea markets, antique shops, etc to source items. Not really a gym bunny, but I do enjoy working out and cooking - so it kind of balances everything out. Other addictions include "Downton Abbey", "How to Get Away with Murder" and books about the French Revolution and writers of the Harlem Renaissance.
