W. Alex Wesaw

Ohio University, Athens Campus

This coming May, 2014, Alex will graduate from The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs with his Master of Public Administration, which focuses on Strategic Leadership and Policy Innovation. While at the Voinovich School, Alex has become particularly interested in topics related to Community and Economic Development, Intergovernmental Relations, Public Sector & Nonprofit Leadership and Management, and Philanthropy. After graduating, Alex will begin the journey to earn a Ph.D. in the Fall of 2014.

In January 2013, Alex was asked by his fellow board members at the National Indian Child Welfare Association to be the Master of Ceremonies for our annual conference. April 2013 came and Alex hosted the event with over 660 people in attendance!

In March 2012, Alex finished his first journey, graduating from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Communication. Specifically focusing in Organizational Communication and Public Advocacy and related studies in Business and Technology.

In August 2012, Alex began his next journey to earn a Master of Public Administration at Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership & Public Affairs.

Alex worked for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, Tribal Government, Human Resources Department. He was given this opportunity after completing an eight week internship.

Alex takes great pride in his role on the Apprenticeship Steering Committee, he continues to work to develop their Carpenter trade skills Apprenticeship program.

In October 2011, Alex joined the National Congress of American Indians. Energized, he worked with a Pokagon Band Councilperson to coordinate and co-host a fundraiser event for the National Indian Child Welfare Association. Officials reported to Alex that the event was the most successful (for that type of event) they have ever held.

In October 2012, Alex was elected to the National Congress of American Indians, Youth Commission to serve as the new Treasurer.

Also in October 2012, Alex was appointed on to the Board of Directors for the National Indian Child Welfare Association.
