Ashley Baquero is a tireless educator serving diverse students with energetic and innovative teaching and mentorship. Her pedagogical philosophy is grounded in whole child education - guiding a child socially, intellectually, creatively, and emotionally. She believes in passionate instruction that elicits joy and curiosity in the classroom.
As a former attorney, she brings a love of research-based teaching strategies and detailed instructional planning to the classroom. She has developed Common Core-aligned curriculum for the middle grades. Her curriculum is a unique blend of thematic and genre-based units that include convention, writing, reading, and character education objectives.
She graduated from Eckerd College in Florida with high honors and later received her law degree from the University of Florida. After practicing law for several years, she chose to follow her true passion into the classroom. She strongly believes that a good education has the power to be the great equalizing force that allows children of all races, socio-economic backgrounds, and home situations to become successful members of society.
In 2010 Ashley was selected to join the highly competitive national corps of teachers, Teach for America. For the past six years she has served a diverse range of students in Atlanta and Durham with results-driven instruction and support. She has worked with child refugees and English language learners to successfully remediate years of language and academic disparities.
Ashley is passionate about education reform, education policy, and curriculum design and implementation. She is currently seeking a position that will allow her to utilize her legal education and advocacy in an education policy setting. Ashley is also pursuing curriculum design and implementation projects.
