Me, I write stories. All kinds of stories. Some of my stories are funny. Some are sexy. Some are just twisted. Mostly they are dark and kind of gothic, but not in a ghosts and goblins way. I like writing about weird things in ordinary places, or ordinary things in weird places. I like it when things are off-kilter, and all messed-up.

Thea Astley, Elizabeth Jolley, Muriel Spark, Joyce Carol Oates, Doris Lessing, and Iris Murdoch are my literary heroines. David Lynch, J.G. Ballard, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Tolstoy, and Dostoyevsky are my heroes.

My first novel is called The Dark Part of Me, published by Grove Atlantic and HarperCollins. Right now I'm working on Gina, my difficult second (and, believe me, it's been difficult).

I also teach creative writing and Australian and contemporary literature at the University of Queensland, where I have recently completed my PhD. My academic interests include contemporary Australian fiction, women's writing, creative states, identity, and narratology.
