A certified physician assistant (PA) with nearly 15 years of experience, Bernard (Bernie) Racey serves as a lead surgical PA for Christiana Care Health Systems in Newark, Delaware. Working together with surgeons at Christiana’s affiliated hospitals and surgery centers, he provides assistance in all surgical specialties, from neurosurgery to vascular surgery. Bernard Racey also manages the health system’s nine-member PA first-responder service for urologic and ear, nose, and throat procedures. In addition to his responsibilities at Christina, Mr. Racey conducts patient consultations and wound assessments as a PA at Zabel Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Prior to assuming his current responsibilities, Bernard Racey worked as a PA for Delaware Neurosurgical Group. There, he handled pre- and postoperative patient evaluations and supported supervising physicians with such procedures as cervical discectomy and lumbar laminectomy. Earlier, as a research teaching specialist for the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Bernie Racey studied trophic processes involved in neurodegenerative diseases and coauthored abstracts of several studies published by the Society for Neuroscience.
Before entering the medical field, Bernard Racey held a role with a home remodeling company. To this day, he continues to leverage this experience to complete home improvement projects at his own residence, including a basement bar made from the African hardwood bubinga.
