Reporter in Beirut Governorate, Lebanon
I'm a reporter covering the Middle East for The Independent, based in Beirut.
Before that I worked at the Associated Press in London and briefly in New York.
I like learning, writing and doing something about the refugee crisis; a current obsession is the Kurdish experiment with self-governance in northern Syria.
My Spanish is decent, Arabic is a work in progress and I can say 'rojbaş' in Kurdish.
I have degrees from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where I was a scholarship Fellow at the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, and Oxford University. I was also very lucky to spend the last two years of school at the United World College of the Atlantic.
I'm from Barry, on the South Welsh coast.
