Research Scientist in Cambridge, United Kingdom
I'm a research scientist at Amazon working on improving the artificial intelligence behind Alexa (Echo). Previously, I was a PhD student at the University of Sheffield and a visiting researcher at the University of Melbourne.
My interests include general purpose artificial intelligence that can substitute or augment human decision making in the real world just by reading raw sensory input and producing real life actions, while maximising some tangible reward that people care about. For example, could a machine learn to read social media, economic data, temporal trends, and discover a way to optimally allocate resources on markets with minimal human oversight? Alternatively, could an AI agent be a truly intelligent assistant to humans thereby empowering their lives and enhancing their living standard?
More specifically, I'm interested in machine learning, natural language processing, speech recognition, computer vision. In my research I extensively focus on deep learning methods and Gaussian Processes. I also have background in agile software development, and some experience in finance and psychology.
