Joseph Brence, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, COMT, DAC is a physical therapist, educator and researcher from Pittsburgh, Pa. Dr. Brence holds a duel bachelor degree in Biology and Health Sciences and a doctorate in physical therapy from Duquesne University. After graduation, he continued his education completing a post-doctoral manual therapy fellowship from Sports Medicine of Atlanta , specializing in the care of patients with complex pain.

Dr. Brence is currently the Director of Rehabilitation for Paramount Health Services, Inc. and Vice President of Operations for the Nxt Gen Institute of Physical Therapy. He holds multiple positions as a consultant, research analyst and peer-reviewer and is an adjunct professor at Duquesne University, teaching Differential Diagnosis and Medical Screening at the graduate level. Dr. Brence has published multiple articles on the concept of pain neurophysiology, routinely presenting his findings and theories at national conferences. He also teaches continuing education courses to physical therapists, focusing on the integration of evidence in the management of patients in pain.

Dr. Brence acts as a national spokesperson for the American Physical Therapy Association and sits on the editorial board of its consumer-based division, He has assisted in the development and implentation of national campaigns.
