Bronwyn Finnegan

Bronwyn Finnegan is a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is completing a Master of Philosophy in Organizational Dynamics through the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. It is her second graduate degree from Penn; she earned a Master of Science in Nonprofit Leadership from the School of Social Policy and Practice in 2024. Her academic path also includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University and, further back, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. She has been deliberately and unapologetically a student for most of her adult life.

Her academic and professional focus sits at the intersection of organizational structure, financial sustainability, and social impact. She came to nonprofit work through the conviction that the sector fills an essential role in American society and through years of close observation of what it takes to sustain that work when resources get tight. Her central argument, developed through graduate study and hands-on consulting with nonprofit boards and executive teams, is an uncomfortable one: most nonprofit failures are not failures of caring, but failures of financial footing. Organizations full of passionate people collapse not because their missions were flawed, but because nobody inside them was equipped to ask the hard questions that might have changed the outcome.

She wants to be, in her own words, a disruptor for the betterment of the sector. The course she would build if given the chance is unglamorous and essential: Business Acumen for Nonprofits, designed to give passionate people the financial literacy the sector currently needs.

She is also an accredited investor with a patient, values-aligned approach to wealth-building. She diversifies across asset classes and takes a long-horizon view shaped, in part, by years of reading the Stoics. She invests in companies she believes will do good in the world, a filter she applies before evaluating anything else about a potential investment.
