Drew Calcagno

Drew Calcagno is a researcher focused on evaluating (multi)national-security deployments of artificial intelligence models. Previously, Calcagno managed AI products and frontier policies at Google’s research lab. He’s also a former government official and naval officer, having served at the White House, at the Pentagon, and aboard a forward-deployed warship. At those posts, he wrote national AI policy for the Chief Technology Officer of the United States and managed computer vision products for the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence. Calcagno is an applied AI PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge, advised by Umang Bhatt, and has graduated from the University of Oxford as a Rotary Scholar, the University of London - SOAS as a Fulbright Scholar, and the US Naval Academy with distinction.
