Hi! I’m Camesha. I serve as a Social Worker, Social Entrepreneur, and Mental Wellness Advocate.
I am the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sista Afya. I've lived with a mental health condition for over 4 years and overcome many challenges to achieve optimal mental wellness. I combined my social work & personal experience to create the social enterprise, Sista Afya to help Black women experiencing mental health challenges to get the information, community support, and resource connection necessary to be mentally well.
As an advocate for people living with bipolar disorder. I created BOLD & bipolar™ - an inspirational photo blog that celebrates the brilliance, beauty, and boldness of people living with bipolar disorder all over the world.
I believe in Radical Social Work practice on the individual & community level to advocate for equitable resources, healing, and justice for marginalized communities. I have 7 years of experience in clinical and systems change in mental health & interpersonal violence prevention in Black communities.
I've worked and received training at the: National Council of Negro Women, Children’s Defense Fund; Polished Pebbles Girls Mentoring Program; BUILD Inc.; Chicago Torture Justice Center; UCAN; and Presence Health.
I am a Licensed Social Worker in Illinois and received my Masters degree from University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. I graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Spelman College with a B.A. in Sociology. I received small business training & graduated from Sunshine Enterprises.
In my spare time, I love to immerse myself in Black culture, Esperanza Spaulding, dance, and comedy.
