Camile Teresa Lofters [formerly Betances] was born in New York, NY, but grew up in South Florida. She holds a B.A. from the University of Miami in Secondary Education and Creative Writing with a minor in Spanish, and a M.S. from Florida International University in Curriculum and Instruction in English.

From August 2007 to June 2013, she taught English, Creative Writing, & Journalism at Coral Gables Senior High School where her most notable accomplishment was the expansion and growth of the Creative Writing program. While at Gables, Camile established and advised the national award winning literary & art magazine, Catharsis.

Camile has been nominated for several school and district awards, including Rookie Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year at Gables High. In October 2012, she won the Florida Scholastic Press Association's District 6 Journalism Teacher of the Year.

In 2015, Camile was chosen for the Teachers for Global Classrooms program where she completed a yearlong fellowship with the U.S. Department of State to become an ambassador for global education.

Currently, she teaches AICE General Paper (10th Grade) and Journalism at Boca Raton Community High School. She is adviser to the award winning student newspaper, The Paw Print, and the yearbook, The Paw. Camile loves to take photographs, write, read, dance, and attend Zumba class. In her limited free time, she loves to travel and go on bike rides with her incredible husband, Dane Lofters (art teacher and graphic designer).
