I am Professor in Global Studies at Aarhus University (as of November 1 2021).

I am a political/ cultural/(digital) media sociologist with an MA and PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA summa cum laude in International Relations from the University of Minnesota. From 2013-2015 I was Senior Marie Curie Fellow at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, completing a comparative study on anti-austerity protests in Spain and Ireland. I speak frequently to audiences around the world on social movements and democracy.

I am a founding editor of Interface Journal, www.interfacejournal.net, and editor in chief of the journal Social Movement Studies, http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/csms20/current#.UmQRgfmmiuJ and was a founding co-chair of the Council for European Studies Research Network on European Social Movements until 2015.
