Deanna (Ferrari) Tomaselli is an award-winning, forward-thinking communications professional. She currently leads media relations and social media for rue21, one of the fastest growing specialty retailers in the country. Her responsibilities include developing and implementing marketing strategies using a combination of entertainment marketing, public relations, paid media, and social media to generate brand awareness and sales, connecting with rue21's target audience and providing a full branded experience above and beyond the competition.
Before working in the fashion retail space, Deanna spent more than five years in advertising agencies working both on the consumer and B2B side of PR and social media – from startups to national brands. Named a "Rising Star" by the PRSA Renaissance Awards and one of Pittsburgh Magazine's 40 Under 40 honorees, Deanna's well-rounded skillset includes media relations, project management, social media management (including strategy, implementation, community management and insights reporting), copywriting, event planning, entertainment marketing, blogger relations and more.
Outside of her day job, Deanna plays an active role in professional organizations. She was president of the Pittsburgh chapter of Ellevate Network (formerly 85 Broads), where she lead a network of trailblazing women who are inspired, empowered, and connected. In her first three months in this role, Deanna helped grow the chapter 71%. Prior to Ellevate, she held several board positions on PRSA Pittsburgh, served as communications lead for PodCamp Pittsburgh and was the Pittsburgh “champ” for social media organization HAPPO (Help a PR Pro Out).
Deanna speaks frequently to organizations and universities and enjoys helping students and young professionals naviage their career paths. Outside of work, Deanna enjoys running and fundraising/raising awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
