Yoga Teacher and Counsellor in London, United Kingdom
I have been practicing yoga since 1996 and teaching since 2004. Having studied with many great teachers, it was dealing with my own health issues in 2006, that I discovered Alaric Newcombe, a senior Iyengar yoga teacher. his classes felt like medicine" and helped immensely. Since then my teachings and my own practice incorporate this medicinal quality.
As well as dynamic yoga, I also teach restorative yoga which calms the nervous system, this practice is deeply nurturing, bringing our minds out of 're-active' mode
"Any kind of healthy change we are trying to make in our life is near on impossible when the nervous system is in overdrive. When we feel calm, centred and connected we can 'respond' to life, which means we come from a place of choice. Very helpful when trying to let go of addictions or negative habits"
A lot of my work is at The Priory Hospital in London where I teach people with a whole range of issues including depression, anxiety, anorexia, chronic fatigue etc.. Students experience great benefit even if they are new to yoga, are unfit, elderly or stiff!
I am a fully qualified Psychosynthesis Counsellor too, so I have developed the ability to read people's energetic and physical body. This means I can see how you bring your habits and personality into your practice and this allows me to guide you to being aware of it. See how it's blocking you and working towards moving through it... Moving into your potential.
My main objective is that people enjoy and want to do yoga. Not for it to feel punitive. So much of life is serious and stressful,
I am told my classes are challenging! but this could be that the students challenge is to do less! To be softer, to rest. Or maybe it's realising the student can do more than they think they can! Emphasis is put onto the word yoga 'Practice' for the student to let go of criticising and develop curiosity and compassion instead.
