Ed worked over 20 years as a graphic designer before earning an MFA in 2002. He then began teaching art at a college level and continued through 2024.

Ed was primarily trained as a print maker and although he presently explores different ways of working, which include some attempts at painting, most of what he does reflects his background as a print maker. However, because of temperament and technique Ed has always found traditional pint processes too tedious and uninteresting and also has never been interested in producing editions or multiples of anything.

After his introduction to contemporary non-toxic methods of printmaking during his MFA studies, he began to explore more direct ways of working. He found that many of these better suited his temperament and interest. Some of these techniques include the use of gel plates, carborundum prints, aluminum foil lithography and laser cutters.

Besides fine art, Ed's creative interests include improvisational music and playing in a free jazz style. The example below is a soprano saxophone improvisation. Greg Herman in playing drums and Chuck Bianchi is playing bass.
