Wheeler Robotics is competing in the FIRST® Robotics Competition for the first time. FIRST®, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is a nonprofit public charity. Its innovative programs focus on motivating young people to pursue educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
Students at the Wheeler School in Providence, RI, spend six weeks in January and February constructing and programming a robot that will be able to play this year’s game, Logo Motion™. The Robot Unicorns of Wheeler won the Rookie All-Star Award at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Regional competition in March, and earned a spot at this year's Championship event in St. Louis, MO, at the end of April.
The Robot Unicorns focus on the values of enthusiasm, responsibility, positivity and dedication in all aspects of their organization. Team members work together not only to build a robot, but to also share the message of FIRST and make sure that their community is as invested in the progress of science and technology as they are.
