Kadir Genc
Professional Tour Guide and Certified Translator in Istanbul, Türkiye
Let me introduce myself! My name is Kadir Genc, and I’m a licensed tour guide from Istanbul, Turkey. I was born and raised in Istanbul, where I still live today. During my studies, I had the opportunity to live in London for a while.
I became a licensed tour guide in Türkiye in 2021. As for my educational background, I earned a bachelor’s degree in English Language Teaching. However, my passion for introducing my country and culture to people from all over the world led me to pursue a master’s degree in Tourism Guidance. After completing my master’s, I was officially granted my guiding license by the Republic of Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, allowing me to legally guide tourists.
You might be wondering what it means to be a licensed tour guide. Simply put, in Turkey, guiding licenses are issued only to those who have completed at least one university degree and have passed a foreign language proficiency exam. This means all licensed guides in Turkey have a strong command of at least one foreign language in addition to Turkish, along with fundamental knowledge of the country’s history.
Regarding my guiding experience, I previously worked for Turkish Airlines, conducting Touristanbul city tours for international transit passengers during their layovers in Istanbul. Nowadays, I work as a freelance guide, offering private and group tours, as well as daily excursions in Istanbul.
I consider myself a globetrotter and a lifelong learner. I love discovering different cultures, learning new languages, and meeting people from around the world. Currently, I am working on improving my Spanish so I can guide tours in Spanish as well.
I am a down-to-earth and sociable person with a great sense of humor—you’ll definitely enjoy having me as your guide in Istanbul! I also believe that a strong mind comes with a strong body, so I’m passionate about fitness and regularly hit the gym.
I’d love to introduce you to the beauty of my country and culture. If you have any questions or would like to book a tour, feel free to reach out to me. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Stay safe out there!
