As a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Geneva Bar Association, and L’Ordre des Avocats de Paris, Attorney Gilles Thieffry has more than 25 years experience in international finance and business law. Gilles Thieffry earned his Baccalauréat at the Lycée d'Etat, in Saint-Gaudens, France, graduating in 1978 with honours. He then earned his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1982 at the Université de Franche-Comté Faculté de Droit in Besançon, France, again with honours. In 1984, Gilles Thieffry graduated with high honours from The Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland, with a graduate degree in law and international relations. He then earned his Master of Laws degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia, graduating in 1985. From 1985 to 1995, Attorney Thieffry worked as a Foreign Associate at White & Case LLP in New York; as a one-year stage Assistant at De Bandt, Van Hecke, Lagae & Loesch in Brussels, Belgium; and at Credit Suisse First Boston in London as a transaction management team lawyer. From there, he worked as the Director and deputy head of the corporate finance transaction management team at UBS Philips & Drew Securities Ltd. in London; as a lawyer in the Office of the General Counsel for European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London; and as the Head of the Legal Department at the London-based BNP Capital Markets Ltd. In 1995, Gilles Thieffry was invited to Norton Rose LLP in London as a Partner to start the firm’s capital markets practice. Arthur Andersen LLP took notice of his work and recruited Attorney Thieffry as a Partner and Global Head of Capital Markets. The Enron scandal brought the end of Arthur Andersen LLP, and Attorney Thieffry worked as Head of the Legal Department at BNP Paribas in Geneva. He then served as a Partner at Pestalozzi in Geneva before starting his own private practice. Today Gilles Thieffry is married with two children. He is the founding partner of the GTLaw firm, specializing in commodity finance, capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions.
