Glenn Lurie (Stormbreaker, Former AT&T Mobility + Synchronoss)

Telecommunications visionary, investor, and General Partner at Stormbreaker Ventures with more than 30 years spent at the forefront of connectivity, mobility, and the technologies that have fundamentally reshaped how the world communicates. From the earliest days of commercial cellular service to the 5G era and beyond, Glenn Lurie's journey to executive positions at AT&T and Synchronoss has positioned him as one of the principal architects of the mobile revolution.

A Career Built at the Intersection of Vision and Execution

Glenn Lurie is a telecommunications executive whose career stands as one of the most consequential in the history of the American wireless industry. Over three decades he has led businesses at every level of the mobile ecosystem — from consumer sales to enterprise software to early-stage venture investment — accumulating a depth of experience that few in the industry can match. At AT&T, at Synchronoss Technologies, and now at Stormbreaker Ventures, Lurie has consistently demonstrated an ability to identify where technology is heading before the broader market catches up, and to build the organizations and partnerships needed to get there first. His is a career defined not by titles held, but by industries moved.

Stormbreaker Ventures: Investing in What Comes Next

Since joining Stormbreaker Ventures as General Partner in 2021, Glenn has channeled the full weight of his operator experience into the world of early-stage investing.

In his role at Stormbreaker, Glenn works directly alongside founders at the earliest and most critical stages of company building — helping them understand how carriers make decisions, how enterprise customers evaluate technology, and how to position a product for the complex, relationship-driven world of telecommunications procurement. For startups trying to break into an industry built on trust and long sales cycles, having Glenn Lurie as a partner is not simply a financial advantage. It is a strategic one. In 2024, he also joined Air5 as an advisor, bringing his expertise in 5G infrastructure and cable integration to bear on one of the more ambitious connected cities initiatives in the country.

Synchronoss Technologies: Leading Digital Transformation for Global Carriers

When the Glenn Lurie Synchronoss era began in November 2017, he brought something to the role that very few enterprise software CEOs could offer: he had spent decades on the other side of the table as one of Synchronoss's most important customer types. That carrier-side perspective informed every strategic decision he made during his tenure.

Synchronoss provides the digital transformation platforms that power subscriber management, cloud services, and connected device ecosystems for some of the world's largest telecommunications providers — technology that operates largely invisibly, underpinning the digital experiences of hundreds of millions of subscribers worldwide. As CEO, Glenn Lurie sharpened the company's strategic focus and guided it through one of the most disruptive periods in the industry's history, as the global rollout of 5G rewrote the rules for how carriers and their technology partners needed to operate. He served as President, CEO, and Board member of Synchronoss Technologies through September 2020.

AT&T: Building the Mobile Era

Glenn Lurie's career at AT&T spanned 27 years and produced some of the most significant milestones in the history of American telecommunications. What began as a sales role at Cellular One in 1990 — at a time when a mobile phone cost thousands of dollars and airtime ran a dollar a minute — evolved into one of the most impactful executive tenures the industry has seen. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions that brought Cellular One into the AT&T family, Lurie rose steadily, earning a reputation as an operator who could build businesses from the ground up and scale them to national significance.

He ultimately ascended to the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Operations, overseeing a $75 billion business with approximately 60,000 employees.

Glenn built three entirely new businesses within AT&T from concept to scale. He led the development of AT&T's Internet of Things division, staking out the company's position in connected devices years before the term IoT entered the mainstream business vocabulary. He created Digital Life, AT&T's home security and automation platform, recognizing early that the home would become a central battleground for connectivity services.

Leadership Philosophy

In his positions at Stormbreaker, AT&T, and Synchronoss Glenn Lurie has operated according to what he calls his "Three P's" — People, Purpose, and Passion. The philosophy is deceptively simple: build the right team, make sure everyone understands why the work matters, and bring a level of genuine enthusiasm.
