Hana Julian

Arad Israel

Perhaps one could tag me as a bit of a maverick. A veteran Middle East news analyst and senior correspondent based in southern Israel, my work in broadcast and digital journalism is appreciated by Jewish, Muslim and Christian readers worldwide.

I am known for being forthright and even blunt while reframing an issue to capture the differences in cultural codes and reveal the importance of commonalities between peoples. However, I also have an innate sense of humor with the ability to identify disparate attitudes while expressing each.

These skills have proved invaluable in the fields of interfaith and diplomatic relations as well as trauma counseling. I have spent years as an editor and senior news correspondent, radio newscaster and Mideast news commentator.

I have been interviewed in Istanbul, New York, Memphis and Jerusalem on various Middle East topics, and have led clinical workshops in the United States and Israel on attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and trauma.

On September 11, 2001 and in the days following, as a fire chaplain I searched with other firefighters for survivors on site at Ground Zero, the smoking ruins of the World Trade Center in New York City, and then subsequently as a trauma counselor at the NYC Fire Dept.

In the 1990s I was the sole female to participate as a member of the initial Chabad-Lubavitch delegation to the Crown Heights Coalition at the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President. The entity's formation followed a three-day pogrom that took place in August 1991 in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York.
