Hedy DiCarlo

Bradenton, Florida

I was born and raised in New Jersey. I spent my childhood writing, holding mock pageants with my Barbies and swimming. It makes perfect sense then that my adult life led me to pageantry and my swim with the sharks during my court case inspired a writing career. When I was only 11 years old I won an invitation to the prestigious Young Authors’ Convention as well as my school’s 1st Place Literary Award. I later attended University of Maryland in College Park.My professional career has spanned from Philadelphia to The World Trade Center in NYC, to my own businesses in Boston and NJ. I was Mrs. New Jersey in 2005 and 2nd Runner Up to Mrs United States later that same year. I spent the “Road to Nationals” writing a syndicated column for The Nutley Sun in NJ titled “Beauty and Balance”.

I became interested in my call to action after my first hand experiences in the justice system. Story after story from long silenced, even shunned women who were so remarkably similar to my friends, family members and self inspired me to seek changes in our system. My column “Voices of Justice” took its roots from notes scratched on a borrowed piece of lined legal paper with a golf pencil while in jail.

Working with the magazine has enabled me to begin work on my call to action, giving much needed attention to the injustices within or justice system. Giving a voice to a voiceless many who have fallen victim to a profit driven system. From organizing a movement with La Leche League to provide breast pumps to lactating women who are incarcerated to creating funds for legal defenses for some of the most deserving and under represented amongst us…there is no limit to the changes we can facilitate within our system, our world and our sisterhood.

"Hedy DiCarlo is also our very own, brand spankin new, people ninja and Public Relations Goddess. Hedy is the perfect storm of Lucille Ball humor and Martha Raddatz laser beam brilliance. #TheOriginalJerseyGirl has taken charge of this brand and has big plans… just ask her. It is hard to meet someone with more gumption & moxie than I have, but Hedy has both in spades. " Joanna BaileyFounder & CEO WWR & RISE Magazine
