Hugo Yu-Hsiu Lee

I am an activist to promote the equal opportunities of language learning for people who live in the margins of Asia, known as the linguistic disadvantaged learners (particularly Taiwan and Thailand). When Asia-Pacific Research Network for the Study of Language and Minority, an international research organization of which I am the president, first began surveying issues in language use and language learning among minorities in 2007, research projects were carried out ever since. Our publications (2010-2016) help better understand the issues and the needs to learn foreign/second languages among Asian immigrant women, asylum seekers, refugees, orphans with and without disabilities, bar-girls, prostitutes, ethnic Chinese labors and massage therapists.
