Hello! Thank you for taking a moment to check out my about.me page! I am thrilled to announce that I will join the faculty at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Virginia as band director for the 2015-16 school year! I am thrilled to move back home to Hampton Roads and to begin teaching at GBHS!
I recently completed the Master of Music program in Wind Band Conducting at James Madison University. From 2005 to 2013, I was a band director at Chantilly High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. During my time at CHS, the band earned recognition at the state and national level, earning multiple Bands of America finalist awards and as a V.B.O.D.A. State Honor Band.
In 2012, the Mighty Marching Chargers earned finalist positions at two Bands of America regionals, winning best music in group AAAA at both championships. In 2011, the marching band performed at the first annual Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii a few months after the Indoor Drum Line captured their first Winter Guard International World Championship in the Percussion Scholastic A division. In 2008, I served as associate director of bands as the Chantilly Symphonic Winds performed at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival.
In 2012, I received the C.H.A.R.G.E.R.S. Character Award, an honor bestowed upon four faculty members each year who best exhibit the traits in our of a Chantilly Charger of Character, Honesty, Accountability, Respect, Growth, Excellence, Responsibility, and Service. Faculty are nominated by members of the learning community and voted on by a committee of faculty and student representatives.
I've been lucky to be able to perform with a number of professional ensembles, including the Capital City Brass Quintet and the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2001, I was a semifinalist for the National Trumpet Competition's Collegiate Division. I am an alumnus of the Tarheel Sun (1997-98) and Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps (1999-2001, 2002 staff) where I was a trumpet soloist and leader for both ensembles. I also play the trumpet for a number of TV shows, including "Storage Wars" and "Monster Garage".
I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Education in 2003 from George Mason University and currently live in Harrisonburg, Virginia with my wife Lauren. We are huge animal lovers and have a gigantic dog named Hurley and cat named Francine. We can't wait to start the next chapter of our lives in Chesapeake!
