Jared Mortensen was born in Cedar City, Utah, in 1978 and grew up in Parowan, Utah.
Jared was heavily involved in sports, particularly wrestling, football, and track, despite challenges such as athletic-induced asthma. Wrestling taught him resilience and grit, qualities he credits for his later success in life and business.
Missionary Work
After high school, Jared served a two-year mission in British Columbia, Canada, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His experiences ranged from working in diverse cultural environments to witnessing how faith could transform lives. Jared developed a broader worldview, compassion for others, and the ability to see potential in people that others might overlook.
Early Career and Education
Returning from his mission, Jared attended Southern Utah University, studying finance with a minor in engineering design. While in school, he worked various jobs, including in manufacturing and furniture factories, demonstrating his drive to support his growing family while advancing his education.
Career at Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems
Jared secured an internship at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, which turned into a full-time position in their rotational Boeing Career Foundation Program (BCFP). He worked on supply chain management, cost analysis, and financial modeling. His hands-on experience in machining and planning allowed him to excel in cost analysis, identifying inefficiencies in supplier contracts.
When Boeing's Wichita division was spun off as Spirit AeroSystems, Jared became instrumental in establishing financial planning processes for the new company. He helped build models for cash forecasting and supplier risk assessment.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
In 2007, Jared pursued his entrepreneurial aspirations by co-founding Cascade Wholesale in Boise, Idaho. The business specialized in selling furniture, pool tables, and mattresses directly to consumers through a warehouse model. While initially successful, the 2008 housing market crash significantly impacted sales, leading Jared to close the business after 18 months.
