As an information professional and visionary, John has nearly 30 years of law firm, vendor, consultant, and academic experience. He has proudly been affiliated with some of the largest law firms and information vendors in the industry. An award-winning writer and popular speaker, John believes in the value of information and the power it can bring when harnessed wisely and efficiently. He is a vocal advocate for the library and information professions and an innovator with a recognized passion for new technologies and the efficiencies they offer.
John is currently the Firmwide Director of Library Services at Sidley Austin LLP, where he runs a large-scale, multinational service operation that includes a team of 35 information and technology professionals. Leveraging his experience and expertise, he collaborates closely with the firm's Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Knowledge Management, and Procurement teams.
Active in the global information industry for the length of his career, John is Past-President of the Special Libraries Association. He is the founder and owner of iBraryGuy LLC, which was responsible for the launches of the popular blogs On Firmer Ground, The Informed JD, and iBraryGuy. All have focused on legal research, information technology, and intelligence. He is a much sought-after speaker, writer, and curator.
In addition to the Special Libraries Association, John is also a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, Librarians Without Borders, the Order Sons of Italy in America, the National Italian American Foundation, the Italian Sons & Daughters of America, and the Nathaniel Hawthorne Society.
John is the 2025 (inaugural) recipient of the University of Pittsburgh School of Information & Computing's Distinguished Service Award and was recently awarded the 2026 John Cotton Dana Award by the Special Libraries Association and the Association for Information Science & Technology in recognition of his service and contributions to the information profession.
