Kara Berry

GIS and Marketing in San Diego, CA

My name is Katherine Berry, but I go by Kara.

I previously worked for Utilis Inc, a remote-sensing company that uses satellite imagery and ground penetrating radar to locate non-revenue water loss. I was laid off in October due to COVID-19. My ultimate goal is to use my GIS experience to promote oceanic or climate conservation through government regulation.

In August of 2019, I graduated from Pennsylvania State University, World Campus with a Masters in Geospatial Intelligence. Geography and all its applications have always been a passion of mine, and I've finally been given the opportunity to explore my passion further.

I have a B.A. in Communications with a focus in Public Relations from California State University, Fullerton, where I was awarded the title of Salutatorian. I was the VP of the Lambda Phi Eta honor society, and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Tau Alpha honor societies. I was awarded the Community Engagement award for my work with the Red Cross, the Most Outstanding Student in PR, and the Top Scholar of the Kappa Tau Alpha society.

In my free time I love to run. I promote a healthy lifestyle and try to rub it off on some of my friends and family. When I'm not running, working, or reading, I play with my dog and spend days at the beach or traveling around the world.

I have background in various aspects of Public Relations work, including but not limited to: composing press releases, product releases, media alerts, pitches, pitch letters, branding oneself, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr), and strategic planning. I have worked on campaigns for organizations such as the American Red Cross, Mitsubishi of North America, and assisted in a campaign for Congress.

However, I am an extremely fast understudy, love the opportunity to work, and my life long pursuit is always to further my education. Because, without our intelligence, who are we?
