Matt Cooling is a Business Development Manager for Cisco UKI’s British Innovation Gateway (BIG) programme, leading innovation activities across the North of England. He works with entrepreneurs, start-ups, incubators, investors, governments and industry, to support and accelerate technology innovation in areas such as Digitisation and the Internet of Everything.

Matt is responsible for the development, opening and start-up engagement at Mi-IDEA, Cisco's new innovation centre being introduced in conjunction with Manchester Science Partnerships. The centre will support post-accelerator start-ups as they develop confidence, capabilities, and scale, with a particular focus on smart cities, IoT, digital healthcare and the digital creative sector.

He is also responsible for the expansion of the National Virtual Incubator (NVI), which connects incubators, research facilities, science parks and academic institutes, and provides a community through which start-ups and SMEs from across the UK can collaborate and explore new innovative ideas and opportunities.

Matt has worked in the technology industry for over 15 years; prior to his current role he spent five years helping organisations to embrace innovative products and services that transform the customer experience and business operations. He has also worked in a number of sales, technical, operational and development roles at both large companies and start-ups.

He holds a First Class BSc in Computer Science from the University of Leeds. More recently he graduated with an MBA from Warwick Business School, where he focused on topics including strategy, innovation, creativity, marketing and network thinking, and completed a research project exploring how to maximise the value of Strategic Alliances.
