Matthew Chism

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Matthew is an urban-rural hybrid. He grew up near Reno, Nevada, only to trade the sagebrush and tractors for the verdant urbanity of Seattle. After a BA in History, Matthew spent nearly ten years working for Seattle Fair Trade and Certified Organic Food companies, concentrating on employee management, asset control, and logistics and shipping. Although Matt was quite good at his job, he decided that he wanted to pursue something a little different when he grew up: a Master’s degree in Architecture with areas of study including urban planning and digital fabrication. Those childhood Legos have a long memory...

Matt is proficient with both traditional methods of inquiry like physical modeling and drawing, as well as new tools like digital modeling, rendering and fabrication. Matt is very well acquainted with Adobe Creative Suite (CS3- CS5), 3D modeling tools like Rhino and SketchUp Pro, and design staples like AutoCAD and ArcGIS. He has experience with traditional shop tools and hand tools as well as CAD/CAM operated routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers. He is familiar with BIM modeling, and iscurrently learning Autodesk’s Revit 2013 and ArchiCAD 2013. Additionally, Matt has experience with music production software and sound synthesis, as well as some experience with video production and editing software.

Aside from his work experience and educational training, Matt is an active musician, playing numerous instruments with his band The Opiate Mass. He probably has a lot more room for new instruments. Matt enjoys reading, watching, and discussing most things Science Fiction, road biking, hiking, and photography. Matt can also sling a mean espresso and can hold his own in the kitchen.
