Prospective MBA student looking to make a difference in my career and in my community.
A graduate of Montclair State University, I began my career in finance at Prudential where I have spent the past two years in fixed income on a derivatives operations desk. Although it may seem that I have take the traditional route to be here today, it would not have been possible without the lessons and leadership traits that I learned as a child growing up on the streets of Newark, NJ.
As a young boy, I aspired to become to first in my family to attend college. Bouncing from foster homes to group homes as a child, I quickly learned how to evolve into a leader. Managing the emotions and growing personalities of my siblings became an early challenge, but my determination to keep us together and positive, outweighed this hurdle. Being subjected to challenge and struggle early in my life, motivated me to work harder.
After enrolling into college, I had the opportunity to excel in all of my areas of interest. Most importantly, I was the captain of the basketball team as well as President of the Student Athlete Committee. Both of these commitments incorporated my passion for leadership and team collaboration. As President of the Student Athlete Committee, I was able to lead and organize charity events to give back to others who came from similar situations as myself, which was one of my most valued accomplishments in college.
My initial interest in finance throughout my early career has grown into a desire to specifically pursue venture capital. I have always taken great interest in the technology market and made sure to stay abreast of current trends. I am an avid reader of several tech sources such as Tech Crunch, Tech Insider and ReCode, learning about the development of early stage startup companies has always intrigued my interest. I have always had the curiosity to take these areas of interest one step further by looking at them from a financial perspective.
Combining my financial based skill set with my genuine interest in the technology space, has sparked the next chapter of my journey to attain an MBA. I look back on my early life experiences as challenging checkpoints to get me where I am today. Each experience has only accelerated my determination to reach the next step of my career. I am eager to begin the next chapter of my career at McCombs.
