Meike Beckford

Sheffield, United Kingdom

I support people with a learning disability as a Consultant at Uemploy and a Financial Advocate at Dosh. In both roles I strive to support people to be independent and work to empower each person to live the life they choose.

At Dosh I enjoy supporting people directly with their money as a Financial Advocate, as well as developing other projects and leading our research and policy work. I have just published a new piece of research on access to banking for people with a learning disability and look forward to leading future collaborative work with the banking and non-profit sectors to improve access to banking for all.

Uemploy is a new organisation that supports people to employ their own personal assistant. Being involved in a company from the beginning is both exciting and challenging and I look forward to seeing it grow and succeed.

Originally from Norfolk, I am a British German graduate of the University of Sheffield. I am a former Charityworks graduate trainee and lead editor of the Charityworks360 website (2012/13).

On a more personal level, I enjoy travelling to keep up my language skills and see new things. I am a keen singer, currently singing with the Sheffield Chamber Choir and like cycling, walking in the Peak District and keeping fit. I am entering my first triathlon in June, running the Blenheim Triathlon for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

I love to meet new people and hear what new ideas and projects are out there, so please do get in touch with me and follow me on twitter or LinkedIn.
