Melanie Spanswick

I am a professional classical musician who has performed all around the world giving solo concerts and lecture recitals. I've also examined for the ABRSM and currently adjudicate for the British and International Federation of Festivals.

With over twenty five years of experience as a piano teacher, I regularly give master classes and workshops at various events and venues including schools, music centres, universities and also for EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association).

My first book, So You Want To Play The Piano? has been revised, expanded, and republished by Alfred Music. I also compose educational piano music which is published by EVC Publications.

My blogsite, The Classical Piano and Music Education Blog, features posts on many aspects of piano playing and music education. I write for various publications including a series of articles for the Piano Professional Magazine (Published by EPTA) about aspects of technique, and a regular instructional column in Pianist Magazine.

The Classical Conversations Series is a collection of live interviews on YouTube, featuring eminent pianists and teachers. I presented this series, speaking to each pianist about their life and work. Interview guests have included Cyprien Katsaris, Andrei Gavrilov, John Lill, Angela Hewitt, Paul Lewis, Janina Fialkowska and Valentina Lisitsa amongst many others.

I studied at the Royal College of Music in London and graduated with a Masters degree in Performance Studies. You can find out more at
