Chicago native Julie Friedman Steele is a change maker and a driven entrepreneur with a mission of bringing local manufacturing back to all communities. Julie's social enterprise brings revolutionary 3D printing technology to the masses through her company The 3D Printer Experience, a retail store-front in Chicago. Julie is also the author of Encyclopedia Britannica's 2013 Year in Review on 3D Printing.

Julie, who has become a vital thought leader within Chicago’s growing and constantly-emerging tech industry. In fact, civic contribution is in her DNA – her family’s business, Friedman Properties, has invested decades in quality Chicago real estate development and landmark preservation, particularly in River North.

Referred to as an autodidact, Julie is passionate about self-learning. Julie's studies have included everything from biochemistry and artificial intelligence to sociology and human behavior.

Before starting The 3D Printer Experience, Julie lived in Los Angeles where she worked as a writer, producer and editor of the Genesis Award-winning documentary, Best Friend Forgotten, with actor David Duchovny. Julie also counts Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak as a friend and trusted adviser to her thriving business projects.

The 3D Printer Experience opened its doors has received international, national and local acclaim for its innovative business model and unique experiential approach. Julie is equally passionate about democratizing manufacturing, and she envisions a new industrial revolution in which 3D printing enables communities all over the world to create and innovate locally for global impact.
