Michael started broadcasting initially on local radio. That was followed by work as a continuity announcer on National Television and Radio RTE 1 and RTE 2. He still contributes to RTE One television in the Presentation Department as an Announcer.

On RTE Radio he has presented the breakfast show, PlayBack and Ireland Tonight. In addition to his work as a presenter he also trained as a transmission controller and editor and more recently completed a training programme on single camera direction. On radio he was host of the Breakfast Show on Lyric FM RTEs national music and arts channel from 6.30 am to 9.30 am Monday to Friday until May 2000 when he joined Dublin's 102.2 Lite Fm where he presented the Weekend Supplement for three years, the PPI Award winning Legends on Lite and occasionally, Dublin Today the daily talk show. In 2003 Michael was nominated in the category Best Speech Presenter Radio. He later joined 4FM where he presented the Weekend Supplement - a 4 hour breakfast show and filled in for on the main lunchtime news and current affairs programme. His voice is used for announcements on public transport in Ireland and he is regular voice over on corporate presentations, live webcasts and multi-media presentations.

More recently Michael can be heard on RTE One Television, On RTE Radio One where he has presented the Weekend On One on Saturday and Sunday, on continuity and on RTE Gold where he presents The Gold Lounge on a Sunday morning. He also deputises on RTE Lyric FM on the Lyric Breakfast on Bank Holiday Monday's.

Michael also is a regular commentator at air shows sharing his passion for aviation, he flies helicopters and is a simulator instructor. This year he commentated at Bray Air Spectacular 2013 and FlightFest 2013.
