Michael Patryn is a Vancouver-based entrepreneur who has made his name in the world of fintech and cryptocurrencies.
Michael is the founder and chairman of Fintech Ventures Group (FVG). Fintech Ventures Group launched in 2015 as Canada's first incubator for blockchain related startup companies. FVG has assisted over 18 companies in financing, M&A, the listing process for the Toronto Stock Exchange and Canadian Securities Exchange, payments system architecture, front-end design, corporate structure, and even regulatory compliance. Fintech Ventures Group has since grown into Canada's most profitable blockchain-focused hedge fund.
Prior to leading Fintech Ventures Group, Michael founded QuadrigaCX, Canada’s largest and longest running cryptocurrency trading platform. QuadrigaCX was the first such trading platform to be licensed by FinTRAC, and reached unicorn status by valuation in 2017.
Michael serves on the advisory board at the Lifeboat Foundation, a nonprofit nongovernmental organization dedicated to encouraging scientific advancements, while helping humanity survive existential risks and possible misuse of increasingly powerful technologies, including genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics/AI, as we move towards the singularity.
Michael earned his Master’s degree in Social Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Outside of the world of fintech and cryptocurrencies, Mike Patryn is the founder and an advisor at the World Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation, a nonprofit organization, run by Marcus Soares, who is an 8 stripe black belt under Carlson Gracie Sr. Michael is also a personal trainer, teaching Krav maga, Thai kickboxing, blade combat, as well as self defense training.
