Mireia Vargas-Urpi

Terrassa (Barcelona)

I started learning Chinese in 2002, when I began my degree in Translation and Interpreting at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). After graduating, I studied Chinese at Beijing Foreign Studies University (北外)and at Yunnan University (云南大学), and Chinese didactics at Beijing Normal University (北师大) and at Beijing Language and Culture University (北语).

I hold an MA in Professional Chinese-Spanish Translation and Interpreting and an MA in Research on Contemporary East Asia, both from UAB. In July 2012 I completed my PhD in Translation and Intepreting Studies with a dissertation on Public Service Interpreting and Intercultural Mediation for the Chinese in Catalonia.

I have taught Chinese at the UAB (Chinese for translation purposes), at the CETT-UB (Chinese for tourism) and at the Barcelona Confucius Institute. I have also taught Public Service Interpreting and Intercultural Mediation at different MA degrees at the UAB, at the Universidad de Alcalá (UAH) and at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO). Since September 2014 I am a visiting professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona. I'm teaching English-Spanish Translation, Intercultural Mediation and Interpreting.
