Therapist, Small Business Owner, and Consultant in Mill Valley, California
My therapeutic approach is positive, strengths based and integrative. I have studied a wide array of psycho-therapeutic approaches that have emerged during my 47-year career. With 13 years working in inpatient treatment settings focusing extensively on trauma I have focused on trauma treatment of all kinds. In 1985, I launched my first long term support group for Partners of Survivors of Child abuse, in addition to workshops and professional training focusing on Partners and Couples.
Going forward I intend to create an online community forum to provide supportive connection and meaningful education specifically addressing the challenges Partners, Survivors and Couples face in the aftermath of all kinds of traumatic experiences. The site is tentatively labeled, “The Compassionate Couples Project”.
~We know that our interpersonal relationships profoundly influence who we are, relationally, emotionally, psychologically, physiologically and physiologically.
~We know that survivors of trauma/abuse, as individuals, have benefited from an enormous growth in knowledge about trauma and its treatment, especially within the past 15-20 years; and yet they continue to struggle in their very important intimate relationships.
~Unfortunately, we know that, despite the progress in individual trauma treatment, Partners and Survivor couples continue to be overlooked by the therapeutic community and are left to fend for themselves, support and information poor and often intensely distressed. With focused support, education and counsel, Partner/Survivor interactions can become a deep and meaningful resource for healing.
The program content will be rich, current, and practical. It will include; important topical videos, blog entries, guest professional podcasts and videos, extensive and annotated resources, positive personal development suggestions, strategies a Compassionate Couples Toolbox comprised of elements of the most effective trauma treatment approaches adapted for couples. Ultimately, the site will also include, video depictions of “Our Stories” (couples sharing struggles and successes), therapist training modules, and community access through online support groups and information sharing.
