My grandma once told me, "When I was your age, we didnt have computers, cell phones, or Twitters." She's nostalgic for how the world used to be, the world that she understood. When I think about a world without technology, I think to myself, "What a shame!" I LOVE technology and watching it grow and evolve with our society. I believe it has an incredible power to do good, by spreading knowledge and connecting people. I sometimes worry that the smartest individuals of my generation are working on the wrong problems (mobile apps with a million fart noises), but we'll figure it out!
I like technology and people but I also like to get away from it all and get lost in a good book, nature or fierce competition. I've been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman lately and enjoy having to be an active reader to understand and follow his intricate stories. I enjoy reading about climate change and recently saw its effects in action during a trip to Alaska. I watched glaciers calve into the Aialik Bay and heard about their record mild winter (this thing is real people). Space has become a new interest of mine: exoplanets, life on Titan, the Big Bang, etc. If I could go back to college I would definitely study Cosmology or Anthropology. I like to excercise and you can find me doing anything from playing in an organized soccer league to doing pushups and yoga in my bedroom before bed.
I work in San Francisco at KISSmetrics where we provide actionable metrics and optimization tools for our customers. I freaking love talking to our customers and finding ways to grow their businesses with the power of data.
“For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.”
